Alright, it’s that time again…where one of the biggest events of the year takes place for both participants and onlookers.

Ironman is finally on the horizon everyone and it’s time we start cracking down on what it means to take part in this ultimate triathlon event.
Sometimes, it’s hard to know what drives a person to want to do something as wild as wanting to swim in unpredictable waters, ride 180km and on top of all that, complete a full marathon.
It’s quite amazing to think what the human body can actually be conditioned for and it’s even more amazing that there are people out there who are brave enough to do it. Triathletes are no joke.
Did you know?
· The first Ironman race was held in 1978 in Honolulu after athletes debated which sport produced the fittest competitors; swimming, cycling, or running. John Collins proposed combining all three into one race. Fifteen athletes started, and the legend of Ironman was born.
· Now today, hundreds of thousands of athletes participate in the event!
The fastest Ironman time ever recorded is 7 hours, 21 minutes, and 12 seconds, achieved by Kristian Blummenfelt at Ironman Cozumel in 2021.
· Every finisher hears the famous line:
“You are an Ironman!”
It’s announced as athletes cross the finish line and has become one of the most iconic moments in endurance sports.
· The first Ironman champion, Gordon Haller, finished the inaugural race in 11 hours 46 minutes.
· The 180 km cycling portion makes up almost 80% of the race distance, which is why bike training is such a huge focus for athletes.
Ah yes, cycling is a huge part of the event which is why we are always enthusiastic and ready to serve when duty calls.
