April Recap at Action Cycles

April Recap at Action Cycles

I think we can all agree that April was a busy one, filled with anticipation, preparation, and plenty of excitement leading up to the Isuzu Ironman. Now that the dust has settled, let’s take a look at what went down this past month at Action Cycles.

1. Ironman Debrief

We’ve said it on our social media, but it’s worth saying again - congratulations to all the athletes who took part in Ironman this past month. Whether you completed the half or the full, you showed up, pushed through challenging conditions, and gave it your all.

And to those who started but didn’t finish, you have just as much to be proud of. Taking on a challenge of this magnitude requires real courage. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan, but as we like to remind ourselves: it may not always be the right season, but it’s always better to try than to live with the “what if.”

A special shoutout goes to our very own Dave McEwan, who took on the full Ironman and finished in an incredible 11 hours and 25 minutes. With no cramps or mishaps along the way, his training and nutrition strategy clearly paid off. To make the moment even more meaningful, he was welcomed at the finish line by his son, Liam, who proudly handed him his medal.

During Ironman week, we also hosted a giveaway where two Specialized Propero 4 helmets were up for grabs. Congratulations to our winners, Eugene and Jan. We hope your new helmets serve you well on many rides to come.

If you didn’t win this time, don’t worry - we’ve got more exciting giveaways planned for the future. And if you’ve got your eye on the Propero 4, it’s available both in-store and online in a variety of colours, along with a wide selection of other helmets to suit your needs.

2. Ten Toes Down Run Club

Since March, we’ve been proud to partner with Ten Toes Down Run Club, hosting early morning runs every Saturday (and the occasional Sunday) as runners gear up for the Cape Town Marathon.

It’s been more than just training, it’s been a chance to connect, meet like-minded people, and be part of an incredibly supportive community. The Ten Toes Down crew brings great energy every week, keeping everyone motivated and moving.

If you’ve been thinking about getting more serious about your running, or even if you’re just in it for the good vibes - this is the perfect place to start.

Runs begin from Action Cycles, with parking available on-site. Afterward, you’re welcome to stick around, chat, and unwind. You can also support our local coffee spot with a breakfast bun and coffee combo for just R40.

3.Upcoming Race Events

Trans Elands – 9th May

We are excited to look ahead to the upcoming Trans Elands Mountain Bike Stage Race, one of South Africa’s premier endurance cycling events. This multi-day stage race challenges riders across demanding off-road terrain, showcasing some of the most scenic and rugged landscapes the Eastern Cape has to offer.

Participants will cover long-distance routes over several days, navigating gravel roads, mountain passes, and rural farm trails. The race is designed to test both physical endurance and mental resilience, making it a true highlight on the MTB calendar.

More than just a race, Trans Elands is known for its strong sense of community, camaraderie among riders, and immersive experience in nature. Riders can expect a well-organised event with full support along the route, including feed zones, medical assistance, and overnight accommodation between stages.

Whether competing for performance or personal achievement, Trans Elands offers an unforgettable challenge for mountain biking enthusiasts of all levels.

Cape Town Marathon – 23rd May - 24th May

The 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon will take place Sat 23 - Sun 24 May 2026 from 06h00 starting at Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Green Point Stadium and finishing at Vlei Road, Green Point in Cape Town, Western Cape. Distances available include 43km, 42.2km, 22km, 11km, 10km and 5km races.

With all that being said, we can finally look forward to the month of May and what it has to offer. To think we are already in the fifth month of the year is a little crazy, but hey, you know what they say - time flies when you're having fun.
